Summer Camps 2014

posted Mar 28, 2014, 4:08 PM by Pack Forty

Summer Camps 2014
It's that time of year again: the snow is (mostly) gone, the mud and the red-winged blackbirds are back, and it's time to sign up for summer camps!

As they have previous years, the Hawkeye Area Council is offering three different types of camps for cub scouts. There are the Cub Overnight camps (two day/one night camp for cub scouts of all ages), Day Camps (four consecutive weekdays of fun), and Resident Camps (various lengths, dependent on age/rank).

Camps are open to boys entering 1st-5th grade this fall. You don't need to wait until fall recruiting events to join cub scouts! If your son would like to attend camp, but is not yet registered with Pack 40, please email Lori below for registration information.

NEW THIS YEAR: Wolves have a Resident Camp! Last year, the wolves were the only cub scout rank without their own camp. This year, the Bear camp has been expanded to a "Bear and Wolf" camp. Also new this year, the Red Cedar day camp will be at Hawkeye Downs instead of Morgan Creek Park.

For dates, signups, and more information, click on the Summer Camps sunshine image, or on "Summer Camps 2014" in the left menu.

* Previous years, Pack 40 paid 50% of one camp's fees for each Pack 40 scout that registered for camp. This may change. As of today (March 28), it has not yet determined what/how-much/if Pack 40 will be contributing towards the summer camp fees this year. This will be determined at the next parents meeting on April 8 at 7pm. Camp fees need to be turned in directly to our treasurer, Beth Johnson.

* Our pack is responsible to provide adult supervision for our boys attending camp. For the Tiger Camp and the Cub Overnight camps, each scout needs an adult partner attending camp; for Wolf/Bear/Webelos Resident camps, we need a minimum of 2 adults for 8 scouts (and a 1:4 ratio after that). Remember, parents have fun at camp too!

* On the subject of adults, we encourage adults attending camp (ALL adults involved with cub scouts, actually) to complete BSA Youth Protection Training. It's free, it takes about 30 minutes online, and illustrates how we can all help make scouting -- especially at camp -- a safe and fun experience for our boys.

* Health forms are required of everyone attending camp. If you turned in a health form for the fall overnight, and ALL of the information is still current, we can use the health form we have on file. If anything has changed (health conditions, medications, immunizations, health insurance card information), please fill out a new form. Health forms are due to Lori Jiacinto by noon, May 22.

* Signup deadline: noon, May 22. Late registrations will need to be handled directly at the council office.

* Online signup forms are ready! See the page for your camp for more information. The online rosters will be coming soon!

Popcorn Sale 2013!

posted Oct 4, 2013, 12:05 PM by Pack Forty

It's that time of year again, when cub scouts are selling yummy popcorn!

By selling popcorn, our scouts earn money to help pay for summer camp, activities, uniforms, and equipment. Additionally, if we meet our challenge goals, we earns a free day at camp for each of our scouts and his guest in April!

Here is a link to the delicious popcorn the boys are selling: 2013 Popcorn Sales Sheet. Contact your favorite Pack 40 cub scout to order!

For the free day at camp in April, we need to meet two goals: we need to have a certain number of scouts sell popcorn, and we need to sell a minimum amount of popcorn. Here are charts showing our progress!

Let's see if we can get those blue bars above the red ones!

Movie Night Thank-yous!

posted Dec 5, 2012, 9:04 AM by Pack Forty

Last night's Down and Derby movie was a lot of fun. I forgot to count, but I'd guess we had more people in our Cub Scout Theater than would have fit in the Bijou!

Special thank-yous to Darin Vig for supplying and operating the AV equipment to show the movie, and to Dan Tvedt for running the popcorn machine non-stop to feed our VERY HUNGRY cub scouts. Finally, and HUGE THANK-YOU to all who watched the movie and helped to clean-up afterward. I don't think I've EVER seen the Fellowship Hall cleaned to quickly before -- WOW!!!
